New Anthologies: “Classics Remixed” – Left Hand Publishers

I have a science fiction story in Left Hand Publishers speculative fiction anthology, titled: CLASSICS REMIXED. Edited by Karen T. Newman. This is a big beefy book, chock full of imaginative stories of characters we know from past fairy tales, novels, and folklore. What happens when you take famous story characters and put them in different scenarios, speculative situations, or twist around a fairy tale? You get Classics Remixed. An anthology of classic characters REMIXED and REIMAGINED into something new and different. I will appear with a werewolf story in the late May digital anthology, CREATURES, by Tell-Tale Press. Edited by Andrea Dawn. There will be two versions to this anthology. A short story edition and a novelette edition. I’m in the short story edition. It will be free to read on the Tell-Tale Press website, then available in ebook format from Amazon in the event you own a Kindle. The book, along with various other titles from Tell-Tale Press, will also be available on May 23-26th at Phoenix Fan Fusion Comic Book Convention. They will have a table there. Harmon and Vonnie Winslow Crist. Re-Launch is just one of many genre titles in the Re-Imagined Series. This particular one being my forte, pulp science fiction. You can find a story of mine, A Better Life, in the recently released dieselpunk anthology GASLANDIA. Published in eBook format, and put out by Radiant Crown Publishing. In A Better Life I tackle the theme of domestic violence (a wife aiming to take her children and escape her abusive husband) for just that: a better life than the one she leads now. Story-wise, it is set against a steampunk backdrop with airships and gears and cogs, but with a working dieselpunk aesthetic. Pick up a copy off Amazon today, or from Radiant Crown’s website. It appears I’ve not only been shortlisted but accepted by a half-dozen or more print anthologies by various presses with themes over the next twelve months. For the second year in a row, I’ll be appearing in the annual eZine, The Random Eye. The Random Eye is about parallel universes, alternate history, alternative fiction, and stories which break the boundaries of communication. Edited by Melissa Jones, the Random Eye is also The Random Radio. My second acceptance is coming in early 2010, Volume #2. It can best be described as a weird tale with a dash of steampunk, a dash of the historical, part fairy tale and part science fiction. Oh yeah, and the 2010 theme is… TEA!

I’ll be coming your way as a feature author in Sam’s Dot Publishing’s print, and soon-to-be e-publication too, Cover of Darkness. This would be my second acceptance to the bi-annual anthology magazine. Edited by Tyree Campbell. It’s a big old novelette, one filled with nurses and hospitals and monsters and the truth about humanity. It is also an historical tale. Atmospherically, it takes place during the height of The Great Depression. The year 1930, to be exact.

This is probably one of my favorite covers to anything I’ve ever been in. You can find an almost novelette-length story of mine in the very popular COVER OF DARKNESS, November 2009. Published twice a year, it’s a magazine-anthology of lengthy horror, urban fantasy, speculative fiction and other dark tales in-between. Edited by Tyree Campbell and published by Sam’s Dot. For this issue, an entire town is destroyed… Dagstine-style. And that officially ends the Fall 2009 year on Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies. This magazine’s a thick one.

I don’t know whether to consider this a magazine credit or anthology credit, so mark them as both for now, I suppose. I’ll have a SF and Fantasy-mixed tale coming to a fairly new bi-annual trade paperback anthology-magazine called Shelter of Daylight by Sam’s Dot Publishing. They’re published every April and October, with a dash of poetry and art. Edited by Tyree Campbell. And yes, this officially puts me on the road to 400 publishing credits sometime in 2010.

Or… The BEST WEEKEND EVAH! Thank you sooo much to everyone who stopped by my booth and picked up copies of my books, pulp magazines, and other wares. Many of you told me you’ve never read genre before, many of you took my card, and a couple of you even stood in line and actually waited. You don’t know how good that made me feel. Thank you again. Here I thought folks don’t read anymore (well, that was before this weekend, assuming I now have new readers – I really hope you enjoy the tales and stay tuned to this spot).

Good news: I’ll be back next weekend. Some marketing, diversifying, and injecting the right pitches clearly doesn’t hurt, I see.

Technically this should be part 2, but since it laps into the following week, I’ll leave it as is, because it will be 3. I’m coming back! I’ll be signing copies of FRESH BLOOD at Flea by the Sea on the weekends in Coney Island, New York. I’ll have copies of obscure pulp mags on hand (with stories of mine in it), hardcovers, other books, and you have Famous Nathan’s Hot Dogs just up the street.
