It’s with pleasure to announce that small press Dark Owl Publishing and my 2023 book, The Nightmare Cycle, will be coming to ‘DAYS OF THE DEAD Horror Convention.‘ Dark Owl Publishing will be an official vendor, they will have a booth, and it will be in Phoenix, Arizona on the following days: June 28th thru June 30th 2024 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. You can book flights and hotel reservations now, it’s going to be a major event. A lot of dealer tables, and a lot of actors and actresses and authors and horror artists. Such famous names as Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Michael Ironside (Starship Troopers), Heather Langenkamp (Nightmare on Elm Street), Michael Biehn (Aliens & Terminator), and so many more! Chugging right along on the 2023 to 24 Nightmare Cycle Book Tour and Book Event calendar sponsored by Dark Owl Publishing comes the following spooky extravaganza by Arizona’s Number One horror specialty retailer, Terror Trader. With their annual Gathering of the Ghouls event. Held at the Mesa Convention Center. I believe this might be the first (of hopefully many) GOTG events. There will be food, books, authors, artists, horror movies, actors and actresses, pinbacks, funko pops, figures, and other awesome collectibles, and most likely some cosplay and a dress-up contest as well.
The horror convention and book event schedule is updated pretty regularly. Say, every two months about. And not only will it feature The Nightmare Cycle by myself, but there will be other fiction books featuring dark stories of mine within their pages (also known as anthologies), and a talented stable of authors you should check out. I put pictures of some of the other books I’m in that will be at Gathering of the Ghouls right below.

I was supposed to put this book post up a few weeks ago, but I have been busy with diet, fitness, and some much-unneeded (for lack of a better term) surgeries. But The Nightmare Cycle has been out for three-plus months, and it’s doing pretty well on the convention circuit and in digital format (Kindle Unlimited subscribers get to read the collection absolutely free). My editor Andrea is doing a fantastic job at Dark Owl with the public event marketing on her side, and I couldn’t be happier.
But now The Nightmare Cycle is available for purchase either online OR in store at places other than Amazon and Barnes & Nobles. Other large literary retailers. I’m pleased to announce if you live in the UK, you can now get The Nightmare Cycle at Waterstones bookstores. Waterstones is basically England and Scotland’s equivalent to B&N. Here in America, we have Barnes&Nobles super stores. In the United Kingdom, however, they have Waterstones super stores. So if you live in the UK, and you prefer print over digital, why not hop over to the horror section and pick up a copy. Link below the picture.
Do be aware it’s 2023, the Age of Online Shopping and Kickstarter and Reading Apps, the age of online pretty much everything in some shape or form. Not every bookstore these days has a horror section let alone a genre section. Unless you’re signed with William Morrow or St. Martin’s Press or TOR. At the end of the day, it’s about the vendor tables; I learned that the hard way hustling in the trenches. So if your Waterstones branch does not have a copy on hand. You should be able to order a physical print edition within 72 hours from them. You can pick it up at the store or, if you are a resident of the United Kingdom, have it delivered via post.
Just here today real quick to announce that my latest horror collection, The Nightmare Cycle, from Dark Owl Publishing, is available in Barnes & Nobles. Not just Amazon or horror specialty stores and conventions. You can obtain it online or through “select physical stores.” Probably the ones that have a horror section. If they don’t have it in stock, it can usually be obtained within two business hours (this can also mean one day). I’ll leave ISBN info down below, in case you want your local B&N brick and mortar to get it in for you. While I love the ease of Amazon and ereaders, personally, I prefer going and sitting with a cup of coffee or tea in a physical bookstore. Call me old-fashioned, but I will never tire of it. A short story collection is a book of tales by one single author, where an anthology is a book of stories usually centered around a theme from not one but many authors, from many different states or countries or diverse backgrounds. The Nightmare Cycle was an idea for a book that came to me one day in a dream (go figure), but is not about being in a dream. It gets its title from every single story being “A Nightmarish Scenario,” one warped tale leading into the next (the theme of cycling and unending), and then the one thereafter. There is no finality. Just horrific circumstance after circumstance. Undulated terror. Beginning, middle, end. Think Rod Serling’s The Night Gallery, but modern day, my take.

I am pleased to announce that the Weird Western Anthology, Something Wicked This Way Rides, is now out from Dark Owl Publishing. It is available on Amazon, in digital and print paperback formats. This book also marks for me ’25 Years’ as a Published Author/Freelance Writer. I will be retiring from the written word next year (most likely), as I want to pursue comic book art, something I also dreamed of accomplishing in the 1990s. I am pleased to announce that I have been invited to submit a BRAND NEW Western themed tale to a major anthology due out this summer from Dark Owl Publishing. It’s been a long time since I’ve written a genre story set in the Old West. Years ago I wrote a western novel, but didn’t see many sales. Western short stories I had a little bit better luck at in the payment department. And they were more entertaining too. That’s what I like about short stories. The pay is halfway decent. They’re quick to write. Quick to read. Just the right amount of space to entertain, and when you’re on the fly. The name of the anthology, which mixes western tales with genre-specific themes — even horror! even steampunk! — is called Something Wicked This Way Rides. Dark Owl Publishing released a mega-sized anthology back around Holidays 2020 which I also have two brand new stories in. This will be my third story with them, gracing their lovely books. So stay tuned for a Lawrence Dagstine western tale later this year, as we visit a mysterious Djinn in the Wild West post-Civil War. The rest, SPOILERS! Mock-up cover below.

But it will be available on the convention circuits, book stores, other places. Covid-19 has had a tremendous effect on publishing when it comes to selling books at cons. It will be available in print and digital formats. The best of both worlds. As said above, there are some VERY strong authors in the short story department here. Other authors will include Gregory Norris (prolific in his own right), Jason McQuiston (who has a science fiction novel coming out around the bend), Gustavo Bondoni, Vonnie Winslow Crist, and even Darrell Schweitzer (former editor of Weird Tales). So, major names here in the short story field.

OTHER NEW ENTRIES: “Book Acceptances, Books & Anthos, Anthologies…”
Summer is almost over, Fall is on our doorstep. With that means cooler temperatures (excited about that), and possibly a second wave of Covid-19 (not too excited about that). Regardless, it means more staying home, working remote, and more time to sit back and read. I’m pleased to announce I have sold two BRAND NEW short stories to the upcoming 650+ page anthology: A CELEBRATION OF STORYTELLING. The cover is gorgeous, and it should drop around Christmas 2020. It will be put out through new publisher, Dark Owl Publishing House. The book will feature two stories of mine: a mystery and scifi tale. And I will keep you updated with Amazon links and ordering info in the coming months.
