Pleased to announce I have a brand new speculative fiction story about afterlife science and “where do we go from here” when, as senior citizens, our time is up. For my next new short story, I’m appearing once again in Stygian Lepus. What started out as a subscriber-based webzine two-three years ago is now a beautifully illustrated (big-and-tall!) print magazine with a Kindle version next to it. But I recommend the print. Serial Magazine: Issue #12… (appearances)

  • My vampire novelette The Paraplegic has finally found a proper home, and in both print and digital form, in the fairly new pulp fiction publication, SERIAL MAGAZINE. I appear in Issue No. #12, Late August 2019. I believe it is a biweekly. You don’t see too many biweekly publications anymore. Great artwork, great interior layout, has that real gritty 1950s feel to it, the kind of magazine you’d find legends Fritz Leiber and Ray Bradbury hanging out and about with their lurid genre classics. I even made the front cover! It is edited by the very talented Tanya Ferrell. I will leave pictures and links down below so you can order a copy, direct from Serial Publishing (the print version is even discounted for the month of August 2019, so hurry).

I had remembered appearing in this particular digest a long time ago, but I couldn’t place when.  Then I remembered, I was in the premiere issue with authors Kristine Ong Muslim, Kenneth Goldman, and Barry J. House.  Now that publishing is collapsing, with mass publications relying heavily on publicity expenditures and print magazines in the final stages of extinction, I’m going to miss these little pulps from yesteryear.  One could step back in time and relive the days of when authors like Ray Bradbury, Fritz Lieber, John Campbell and A.E. Van Vogt were just starting out.   I must confess, I’m going to miss it; oddly enough, another part of me isn’t.

This is probably one of my favorite covers to anything I’ve ever been in.  You can find an almost novelette-length story of mine in the very popular COVER OF DARKNESS, November 2009.  Published twice a year, it’s a magazine-anthology of lengthy horror, urban fantasy, speculative fiction and other dark tales in-between.  Edited by Tyree Campbell and published by Sam’s Dot.  For this issue, an entire town is destroyed… Dagstine-style.  And that officially ends the Fall 2009 year on Vampires, Werewolves, and Zombies.  This magazine’s a thick one.

Whispers of Wickedness: “Saying Goodbye…”

For over three years, Whispers of Wickedness was that special place for writer and reader alike.  A relaxed atmosphere.  A place you could call home.  At least for me.  Filled with bands of movie lovers, Doctor Who and Blake’s 7 fans, readers of fine literature, and most of all good storytellers and poets.  Nice people.  Whispers was a messageboard,  print magazine, and book review venue among giants… No matter how small they may have looked from the outside, their hearts were a whole lot bigger on the inside.  All it took was thirty or so people that visited frequently to make it such a wonderful place to be. 

Below you will find one of the issues I appeared in some years back.  One of its editors went on to receive a very well-deserved British Fantasy Award, the place was a megatropolis for a long time for aspiring writers looking to break into small paying markets, and there were laughs aplenty.  The final issue of the magazine is available soon.  It might be Issue #16, it might be No. 17.  Not sure.  But the drawbridge is raised.  That I do know.   The mugs are almost empty, and it’s time to find a new pub to meet up.
