HALLOWEEN BOOKS: “Halloweenthology Bad Pumpkin!” – Wicked Shadow Press

I have a Halloween-themed story about mummies (and housing discrimination related to them) in the latest paperback entry in the Wicked Shadow Press seasonal anthology series, HALLOWEENTHOLOGY 2025 – Bad Pumpkin! Every year Wicked Shadow puts out three beautiful looking tomes in the Halloweenthology franchise, all on the same horrific theme: Halloween. It’s become a tradition. They sell quite well here in the United States and India. This year it’s another three books. I’m in Bad Pumpkin, so remember that. The other books in the series are called “Blood Moon” and “Autumn Falls.” For my story, imagine being a mummy owner, trying to find your own apartment for you and your bandaged-up entourage to live. Imagine getting turned away wherever you tried, housing complex after housing complex, good credit and all. But finally you stumble upon a creepy mortician who rents out one of his apartments. Lawrence Dagstine: “A Day at the Brooklyn Museum…”

The following series of pictures were taken a little over a year ago, when I went on a research trip to The Brooklyn Museum of New York.  During that time, between 2008 and early 2009, there was an Ancient Egyptian/Assyrian Exhibit.  They also had an “Old School” Graffiti Art exhibit on the 5th Floor.  It was a lot of fun.  I got to see some real mummies (which you’ll see below), tombs, statues, canvases, masks, and a whole lot of other interesting stuff from the days before Christ.  I finally got around to resizing some of those other photographs.  The results of this visit would be a short article for an archeological magazine and an alternate history tale featuring Cleopatra (novelette-length).  Here they are, finally, in all their glory.  Historical and artistic pics.

Lawrence Dagstine: “Dagstine does Egypt…”

Ancient Egypt that is! Minus the Scifi novella, a look into one of five upcoming projects between 2009 and 2010 that should wet any reader’s appetite.  This should give my fans and peers a look into what I do for inspiration and, at times, research.  From the ashes of a New Yorker’s mind, a non-fiction and fiction tale is born.  Think of an article or story like a work of architecture — Like any building, it needs a foundation drafted, then crafted, in order to stand.  A good story can also be like a work of art.  Colorful and priceless, depending on the artist.  With any dedicated and enthusiastic study, life experience also plays a major role in creation.

Whether it’s freelancing pre-dynasty non-fiction or fantasy, alternate history or occultist horror, Dagstine will do it! That’s for sure.  The hints to one of my next tales sits on this screen — well, rather yours — in front of you.  Will it have lots of mummies and real mystery? Will it involve Cleopatra? Will it showcase ancient gods and pyramids in an adventure the likes you’ve never read? I guess you’ll have to wait and see…

By the way, there’s tiny scarabs and children’s remains — mummified, I might add — in that tomb behind me (just kidding).  Coffins such as these were used by pharoahs or kings for royal pets, such as cats.  Lots of times they were mummified and buried with their owners.  Personal belongings were included for their long journey into the next world.
