Hellbound Books Publishing: “Anthology of Folk Horror” – Edited by Jae Mazer, new story by Lawrence Dagstine!

Posted on October 23, 2026

I have a brand new folk horror story in this big anthology just released in time for Halloween by Hellbound Books Publishing and edited by Jae Mazer. Technically, you can even consider it one part “Horror-Mance.” Think supernatural folk meets dark romance. It’s called Hellbound Books Anthology of Folk Horror. It’s got a tremendous lineup. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for creepy, seasonal, folksy fare. My story is about a single mother who dates a pumpkin man. The story is told from the perspective of her son. And this pumpkin man has a dark secret. He’s a charming guy with a classy car, and he drives a locomotive. But where do those train tracks and that locomotive in the pumpkin patch lead? To hell? Why is this creature serenading this kid’s mother? You can find out in my new story: “Mom’s New Boyfriend: The Pumpkin King.”

ANTHOLOGIES: “Not Your Grandma’s Fairy Tales” – Three Cousins Publishing!

Posted on September 24, 2026

I’m back with Three Cousins Publishing (in conjunction with editors Robert Lupton, Carol McConnell, and West Mesa Press). And for a fourth time in five years. I was invited to submit a short story to their “speculative fiction & horror” mashup anthology, “Not Your Grandma’s Fairy Tales.” This year’s theme is Mother Goose and Grimm’s fairy tales RETOLD. Think Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel. But the stories are remanufactured and told from outside the box. My story is about Prince Charming, returning from the underworld after a horrible car accident. He comes back in a zombified sort of way. And he has some recompense for his former lover. Check out my story in this latest fairy tale retold anthology: “Skin like Snow, Breath like Earth.” On Amazon AND Lulu, just scroll down.
